Atlantic Red Claws High Performance Challenge
The Atlantic Red Claws High Performance Challenge is taking place June 26–28, 2026 at St. Francis Xavier University (Antigonish, Nova Scotia). This event has been built with one goal in mind — to provide a true high-performance, elite showcase environment for top female players and programs. This is not a typical spring tournament. It’s an invite-only event focused on pace, competition, development, and exposure — designed for teams that want to be pushed and prepared for the next level. Event Overview Event Name: Atlantic Red Claws High Performance Challenge Dates: June 26–28, 2026 Location: Keating Millennium Centre (StFX), Antigonish, NS Divisions: Elite 2012 & Elite 2014 Teams: 16 total (top programs from Atlantic Canada, New England, and beyond) Tournament Format 4 games guaranteed per team Opportunity to play up to 6 games including playoffs 3 x 15-minute stop-time periods Full round robin + playoff structure No timeouts in round robin, 1 timeout allowed in playoffs Running time will apply in games with a 5+ goal differential (until the margin drops below 5) Coaches select an MVP from the opposing team each game The format is designed to keep games competitive, meaningful, and high pace from start to finish. Level of Competition We have been very intentional with team selection to ensure a strong, balanced, and competitive field. Programs attending represent some of the top female hockey development environments across: Atlantic Canada (NS, NB, PEI, NL) New England / Northeastern U.S. Additional high-performance programs from outside the region This creates a consistent elite standard across all games, not just select matchups. High-Performance Experience Beyond the games, we’ve built an environment that mirrors what players will experience at higher levels: Fast-paced, structured hockey with emphasis on development and execution Streaming coverage to increase visibility for players and families Expected attendance of 600–1000+ players, families, and spectators Opportunity to compete in a setting that includes coaches, advisors, and high-level hockey connections Featured Event – “Pathways in Hockey” Hot Stove (Saturday Night) A major piece of the weekend will be our Saturday night player development and education event, focused on helping players and families understand the different pathways in female hockey. This includes: Guest speakers from U SPORTS (AUS), NCAA, and professional (PWHL pathway) Open discussion around development, recruitment, and progression Pasta dinner + social environment for players and families This is designed to add real value beyond the ice and give players insight into what’s ahead. Facilities The event will be hosted at StFX Keating Millennium Centre , one of the top university hockey facilities in Atlantic Canada. Features include: High-quality ice surface Full dressing room access On-site amenities and services Spectator-friendly viewing areas Logistics & Accommodations On-campus housing available through StFX (primary option for many teams) Additional hotel options in Antigonish area Centralized location with everything within close proximity Teams are responsible for their own travel and accommodations A full schedule, hotel details, and event logistics package will be provided upon registration.
