Evelyn Lawrence
Coach
Evelyn’s hockey journey began in Calgary’s youth leagues and has carried her through to NCAA-level play with the Dinos, giving her deep insight into every stage of athlete development. Last spring, she lent her expertise as a junior coach for SDR Academy and earlier assisted with power-skating clinics, where she discovered her passion for teaching proper stride mechanics and edge control. Her coaching philosophy centers on “positive reinforcement and celebrating the little things,” ensuring each drill—whether mastering tight turns, stickhandling through cones, or small-area competitions—ends with clear, upbeat feedback that boosts motivation and cements learning.
Off the ice, Evelyn fuels up with spaghetti and meat sauce before heading to practice, and dreams of drawing up bench strategies alongside Cale Makar and Nathan MacKinnon for the Colorado Avalanche. She energizes her teams with Steve Aoki’s “It’s Time,” and lives by the mantra “always keep your feet moving,” reminding players that strong skating underpins all aspects of the game. Recalling the joy and camaraderie of her third U18 season as one of her favorite memories, Evelyn emphasizes that “your hard work in the gym will reflect on the ice,” encouraging young athletes to embrace continuous improvement, teamwork, and the fun of hockey at every turn.
