Kiley Hasenfratz
Coach
Kiley Hasenfratz has laced up her skates for years, continually evolving her own game while helping teammates learn alongside her—a dual role that gives her unique insight into both struggling with and mastering new skills. Hailing from Calgary, she’s already earned her Canada coaching certification and is in the midst of completing her USA Hockey credential. Kiley works with players as young as four and as seasoned as twenty-two, tailoring every practice to challenge each athlete at their own pace. Her core belief—“if you work hard enough for it, it will pay off”—underpins every drill, and she encourages a growth mindset where mistakes aren’t failures but stepping-stones to success.
Off the ice, Kiley fuels her mornings with eggs, an apple smeared with peanut butter, and toast, then brings that same balanced energy to her coaching style. Inspired by Nathan MacKinnon—her coach often notes their similar playing temperaments—she dreams of one day calling the plays for her hometown Calgary Flames from behind the bench. Whether guiding a newbie through their first forward stride or helping an advanced player fine-tune a power-play setup, Kiley’s feedback is always constructive, motivating, and infused with a healthy dose of humor.
Beyond tactics and technique, Kiley’s genuine love for teaching shines through when she sees a player’s eyes light up after a breakthrough or hears their laughter echo across the rink as they nail a tricky move. She punctuates every session with the mantra, “just because something isn’t going your way doesn’t give you an excuse to give up,” and keeps morale high with pump-up tracks from bigxtheplug. Her favorite coaching moments are the blend of silliness and focus—kids cracking jokes one minute, digging in the next—and she reminds everyone that while hard work builds champions, taking a day off to rest and recharge is just as important for long-term success.
