Sara Rose Tataryn
Coach
Sara Rose’s hockey journey began on Calgary’s youth rinks and has carried her through countless practices and games, instilling in her the belief that enjoyment fuels development. Over the past five seasons, she’s led U9 and U11 girls’ teams—crafting practices that balance technical edge-work drills, dynamic small-area competitions, and clear explanations of why each exercise matters. Her philosophy centers on creating an environment where players leave every session eager to return, armed with new skills and confidence.
Understanding that true learning comes from comprehension, Sara Rose ensures each drill is introduced with its purpose and game application: whether mastering tight turns, perfecting a transition edge, or executing a breakout pass. Practices begin with upbeat warm-ups—often accompanied by Green Day’s “Basket Case”—and progress through personalized skill stations before wrapping with a team huddle that celebrates effort and sets goals for the next practice.
Off the ice, Sara Rose refuels with chicken, rice, and veggies, and dreams of guiding the Vancouver Canucks’ teamwork-driven system alongside her idol, Hayley Wickenheiser. She lives by the mantra, “Always try your hardest—it’s more fun that way,” and reminds athletes that dedication both on and off the ice—whether in the gym, at home, or on the rink—builds champions. Her favorite memory? Taking her team to provincials and watching them elevate their play through unity and trust. With Sara Rose’s passionate, dedicated, and fun coaching style, every player gains skills, self-belief, and a love for hockey that lasts a lifetime.
