Spencer Moe

Coach

Spencer’s hockey journey began in Calgary’s youth ranks before he spent five dynamic seasons in the WHL with the Prince Albert Raiders—capping that chapter by winning a league championship—and transitioned seamlessly to U Sports, where he’s now a veteran leader for the Mount Royal Cougars. Last summer, he honed his coaching chops as Assistant Coach for the 2012 HP men’s camp and served as Perfect Skating Lead Coach, developing curricula that marry technical edgework with game-speed decision-making. Although he’s still pursuing formal certifications, Spencer’s hands-on approach is already unlocking each player’s potential through clear communication and live demonstration: he believes that showing exactly how to perform a skill is just as important as explaining why it will elevate your game.

On the ice, Spencer structures every session around growth and development—challenging athletes to become dominant and dynamic—by breaking drills into progressions that emphasize scanning the ice, reading plays, and executing under pressure. Warm-ups might start with scramble-egg–style agility circuits before moving into puck-receiving drills, transition skating, and situational small-area games. He wraps each practice with a debrief, setting personal targets and reinforcing his mantra: “Don’t pass up any opportunity—be selfish to shoot the puck.” Off the ice, Spencer fuels up with scrambled eggs and cubed potatoes, dreams of drawing up power-play schemes for his hometown Calgary Flames, and kicks off warm-ups to “Stuff” by Lil Baby and Travis Scott. Whether he’s modeling proper form in the weight room—because “train smart; form is way more important for long-term success”—or sharing stories from his WHL championship run, Coach Moe’s engaged, talkative, and supportive style ensures every player walks away more skilled, confident, and ready to dominate the next game.
